Structure and technical information
The “Frikorps Danmarks” was established on July 19, 1941 and disbanded on May 20, 1943.
Frikorps Danmark is set up as an independent horse-drawn SS Battalion subordinate to the Waffen-SS, with a Staff and 4 companies, where the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Company are rifle companies, each consisting of:
Company commander, Company staff and 3 rifle platoons. The rifle platoons each consist of:
platoon leader, platoon platoon, 3 groups of 12 men with 2 LMG (light machine guns)
and a 50 mm grenade launcher group. 4th Company is a horse-drawn unit with 12 heavy machine guns and 9 pcs. 80 mm grenade launchers.
When the Free Corps was transformed into a motorized Battalion in September 1941, the heavy machine guns and grenade launchers from 4th Company were transferred to the 3 rifle companies. They were distributed with 4 heavy guns and 3 grenade launchers to each company and formed a 4th platoon. The old 4th Company was changed to consist of two platoons, each with 2 pcs. 75 mm light infantry guns (Infantry Geschütz), a platoon with 3 pcs. 50 mm anti-tank guns (PAK). At the same time, an independent Pioneer Division is created, which is divided into 3 groups.
Due to the large influx, a 5th Company was formed on 23 August 1941 with Lieutenant Colonel P. Neergaard Jacobsen as company commander. This was converted into a replacement company on 1 October 1941.
