Formation and training

May 1941

The Danish national volunteers who had departed in May 1941 for service in the unit “Standarte Nord-West,” with training at the Hamburg-Langenhorn barracks, were transferred organizationally to Frikorps Danmark. The German-oriented volunteers were transferred to Wiking / Regiment Nordland in Graz. The approximately 75 Danish-oriented volunteers were tasked with receiving the new volunteers and serving as assistant instructors (“Hilfsausbilder”) within the training staff.

The photo above shows the departure of the first contingent from Hellerup railway station on 19 July 1941.
