Sleeve shields for the uniforms of Danish volunteers.

Here is a selection of sleeve shields worn particularly by Frikorps Danmark and Regiment 24 “Danmark”. It should be noted that many homemade shields exist. Unfortunately, there are also many forgeries of these shields, so when assessing authenticity one must be very cautious.

This one would immediately appear handmade and possibly counterfeit, but it originates directly from a Danish volunteer (Asger Kristensen). He removed it from his uniform when he arrived at the Italian prisoner-of-war camp.

The next one is also homemade, but is believed to originate from a Dane in British captivity.

At Regiment 24 “Danmark” in 1943, standard sleeve shields were introduced for the different nationalities within the Waffen-SS. They consisted of the national flag surrounded by a black border.

The one shown here originates from a Danish nurse (Carla Christensen), who confirms that these shields were produced and also sewn onto the uniforms of some Danish volunteers.
