Latvia in recent times

Latvia offers many fantastic travel experiences and has many sports after participating in wars. Not only World War II has left its mark, but so has World War I and the lifelong struggle against Russia. The Latvian people are free today and have largely developed to be part of the EU. Riga is the metropolis and apart from a fantastic museum in the city center, there are not many relics of the wars. Just outside Riga, to the west, you will find a large and impressive war grave site, built with money from Germany/VDK but by local labor. One of the main figures behind the construction itself is the Latvian former SS volunteer Edgar Schreier. Approximately 150 km from Riga to the west you will find the facility in Saldus, one of the largest in the Baltic countries, where urns with remains from graves specifically related to Germans have been received from all over Latvia and placed in mass graves. There are a number of Danes here.
