Grafenwöhr military training area in southern Germany
March/April 1943 – present
One of Germany’s oldest and largest military barracks. In 1943, it was large enough to house an entire division with associated training and recruiting units. After the war, it was taken over by American forces and is today the largest American military base in Europe.
