I

An invisible host follows us
of Denmark’s old warrior spirit.
The people who reaped death and danger
in battle for King and our country.
“From them we have the clear lesson:
through sacrifice, Denmark’s honour was created.”

From the fields of Isted, the plains of Scania,
from Russia’s soil, from the sands of the sea,
an eternal question is raised within us:
Do you fight for the people and our country?
“And follows you our clear lesson:
through sacrifice, Denmark’s honour was created.”

Old ties bind the chain of blood,
in it you and I are a link.
We wish to follow in your footsteps,
we swear to you a sacred oath.
“We shall follow your clear teaching,
and sacrifice ourselves for Denmark’s honour.”
