The individual’s address consisted only of rank and name followed by a number. This number represented a code that the military postal organization could interpret to identify the unit and the unit’s location at the time in question.

The following numbers were assigned to Frikorps Danmark:

However, since the Danish postal service operated independently, during the early period of Frikorps Danmark’s existence it was necessary to send field mail to the military postal collection point at A. F. Kriegersvej 3 in Copenhagen, enclosed in another envelope bearing the normal Danish domestic postage.

Mail to Denmark was sent through the same channels and delivered by the Danish postal service.

Postal correspondence was subject to the applicable censorship regulations, meaning that, among other things, city and place names could not be mentioned. Once the letters had been reviewed by the censors, they were marked with a stamp and sealed with a censorship band.

Postal Correspondence to Frikorps Danmark. Dated: Copenhagen, 5 September 1941

It is hereby announced for information that, by agreement with the German Reich Postal Ministry, the following regulations apply to postal correspondence to and from Frikorps Danmark:
To and from members of the Corps, ordinary letters weighing up to 100 grams and postcards may be sent. Registered mail, insured letters, and parcels may only be sent for official military purposes. The correspondence must be marked “Field Post”. No destination location may be stated in the address. Instead of a destination, the field post number of the relevant military unit must be given. In connection with the recipient’s name, no rank designation may be used that could reveal the nature of the military unit concerned. Thus, while it is permitted to state, for example, Soldier, Lieutenant, etc., it is not permitted to state, for example, Gunner, Pioneer, Telegraphist, etc. Furthermore, it remains the case that letter correspondence from Denmark to the Frikorps must be prepaid at the domestic surface mail rate, and that field mail sent to Denmark, arriving without postage, shall be delivered without any postage charge being collected.

Letters: For censorship purposes, the envelope bearing the SS volunteer’s name must be left unsealed when delivered or submitted (inside a normally stamped envelope) to the SS Post Office, A.F. Kriegersvej 3, Copenhagen Ø, from where it will be forwarded free of charge as field mail to the addressee.
Parcels: May be sent twice monthly. Information regarding weight limits, contents, etc., can be obtained from Hjemmefronten, Rosenvængets Allé 32, Copenhagen Ø, telephone Central 14.435.

In most cases, parcels sent to our volunteers must travel a long distance. It is therefore strictly necessary that, in future, the packaging be very secure. The contents must not be loose in such a way that they can shift during transit. The maximum size of a parcel may not exceed 20 × 10 × 10 cm.
Poor packaging has recently been the reason why various shipments have been lost.
As of 1 April 1943, all shipments must be provided with a 40-øre postage stamp. However, this stamp must not be affixed to the parcel; instead, it should be placed loose between the outer and inner packaging.
The field mail address, or alternatively the open address, must be written clearly and legibly!**
The sender’s name and address must be written on the reverse side. At this office, only parcels intended for volunteers serving in the Waffen-SS can be accepted. Parcels for soldiers belonging to other units of the Wehrmacht cannot be forwarded.
The parcel may weigh no more than 1 kg. No more than two parcels per month may be sent to the address of a volunteer.

The parcels must be wrapped in double packaging and sent to the following address:
SS-Ersatzkommando Dänemark, Jernbanegade 7, Copenhagen V, from where they will be forwarded to the military unit as official service mail.
The following should be noted:
Letters must not be enclosed with the parcels. Flammable items (matches, gasoline, etc.) are excluded from transport. Glass items cannot be sent because of their fragility. Rationed goods are subject to export restrictions. If you wish to send something from your own ration allocation (for example, butter), you should bear in mind that, due to the often lengthy transport route, such items can easily spoil, especially during the warmer seasons. In general, it is advised not to send perishable foodstuffs at all.
Furthermore, it is requested that the SS-Ersatzkommando be notified of the parcel shipment in order to maintain control over the receipt of parcels.
