On the morning of 7 June, when the gate opened for me and three other prisoners, it was a great day that I will never forget. We immediately drove to Helsing\u00f8r, where we drank our morning coffee at the Mission Hotel. The first coffee in two years. Afterwards we had to run to the railway station to catch the train to Copenhagen, where we parted and each went our own way. I came home by train, arriving in Vall\u00f8 at 14:30, and was received with kisses and pats by my little wife and our daughter, who alternately laughed and cried. <\/p>\n
The first days were spent with company and visits from friends, acquaintances, and family. A kind of \u201choneymoon period.\u201d After that came the grey everyday life with hard work day and night. A considerable amount of debt had accumulated during the time I was away.
On 28 July I went to N\u00e6stved Hospital and was operated on in my left eye, which had been damaged during the war. However, it only lasted about ten days. Otherwise, during the first summer I worked for farmer Vejb\u00e6k in Vedsk\u00f8lle. <\/p>\n
