Our small amusements otherwise consisted of teasing each other. For example, we once hoisted Skovm\u00f8ller\u2019s cloak\u2014which he hung on the wall at night\u2014upside down, and when he had been asleep for a while, he suddenly exclaimed: \u201cWhat the hell is that?\u201d<\/p>\n
Another Christmas game was that we tied a tail onto each other, or else we tied someone to a stool.<\/p>\n
We once put a wet cloth into Daniel\u2019s trousers one morning when he jumped into them. From time to time, a rag shoe and other items were hidden in the beds, and sometimes the bottom boards were removed. \u201cB\u00f8sse\u2019s\u201d pillow and snore bag were also played hide-and-seek with him. <\/p>\n
Hedemann was once careless and, while sitting on a stool, had fallen asleep with his glasses on, after which a couple of bright minds pasted over his lenses. You should have seen the sight when he was woken up. <\/p>\n
Just before Christmas, my brother Christian came home as a prisoner of war from Germany. He had been held in a prison camp near Hanover, where in early December he was handed over to his compatriots, who showed up with rifles and submachine guns as if he were a very dangerous criminal. The treatment they received now was not even something they had experienced from those who had captured them in the first place. He was then placed in K\u00f8ge prison. <\/p>\n
On 23 December I received my indictment, in which I was charged with having been in the \u201cFree Corps Denmark\u201d and the \u201cSchalburg Corps\u201d, as well as having taken part in railway guard duty. Christmas Eve we celebrated in silence, thinking of our relatives outside the barbed wire.
